john burke

John Burke

John Burke, founder, CEO of Honu House Hawaii, brings both professional experience and deeply personal insight to the recovery journey. After studying Modern Languages with an emphasis in Spanish at the University of Mississippi (2000–2004), John spent several years working in retail / distribution management, and as a sales engineering representative in the packaging industry. While these roles all offered valuable life lessons, he knew they were not his true purpose.

Before finding lasting sobriety, John struggled for years as a chronic relapser. Like many who come through the doors of recovery, he experienced the frustration of knowing what needed to change but feeling unable to make it stick. Over time, he realized that self-knowledge availed him nothing—true transformation required surrender, humility, and a willingness to do the deeper work.

With over a decade of sobriety, John has embraced a new way of living rooted in accountability, service, and spiritual growth. His extensive experience with both 12-step and non 12-step inpatient programs helped shape the foundation of Honu House Hawaii, which focuses on creating a supportive and structured environment to foster lasting change.

John believes that true freedom becomes possible through humility, self-sacrifice, and surrender. Today, he is passionate about helping others break free from addiction, depression, anxiety, and discover a life filled with purpose, connection, and hope.

Eliza Wille, Primary Therapist

Eliza Wille, M.SC.

Primary Therapist

I am excited to join the Honu House team as Primary Therapist. I have had the tremendous pleasure of knowing John through his recovery journey and am honored to help build a treatment program that reflects our collective passion for compassionate, integrative care to support the healing of the whole person. I have had the privilege of helping people who are struggling with addiction for over a decade and adhere to the wisdom that it is pain, suffering and trauma that compel people to use substances and behaviors addictively. When we address the physical, emotional, psychological and spiritual conditions that created the vulnerability for addiction, a resilient and enduring recovery becomes possible. I look forward to partnering with you, or your loved one in this journey of discovery and recovery!
