WHAT WE TREAT
DRUG ADDICTION TREATMENT
Holistic treatment for drug addiction grounded in evidence-based approaches: 12-Steps, individual counseling, group counseling, and alternative supports
Drug addiction – called substance use disorder (SUD) by treatment professionals, frequently called substance abuse – is a clinical behavioral disorder that involves chronic misuse of drugs – legal or illegal – and an inability to stop using drugs despite obvious and severe negative consequences that impact your body, brain, and emotions. Drug addiction can cause significant disruption in relationships with family, friends, partners, and spouses, and impair your ability to fulfill basic expectations and responsibilities at school, work, and other important areas of life.
At Honu House, our experienced team of recovery experts uses evidence-based therapies to help you understand the underlying dynamics of addiction and equip you with the skills and resources necessary to overcome your problems with drug use. If you take the first step, we can help you find the path home, because we know the way.
Substance use disorder (SUD), i.e. drug addiction, is most often caused by a combination of genetics, environmental factors, family dynamics, and individual experiences such early trauma or adverse childhood circumstances.
If you have a family history of drug addiction, started using drugs early, or use substances to manage symptoms of a mental health disorder, your likelihood of developing addiction increases.
What Are Signs I Might Be Addicted to Drugs?
Common signs of drugs addiction include, but are not limited to: intense cravings for drugs/substances/intoxicants, continued dug use despite negative consequences, continued use despite trying to stop, neglecting responsibilities and relationships due to drug use, using drugs alone or in secret, hiding dug use from friends and loved ones, and experiencing withdrawal symptoms when you try to quit using drugs.
If you or someone you know is showing these signs, it may be time to seek help.
The most effective treatment for drug addiction follows an integrated, holistic template that addresses all areas of life affected by addiction: emotional, behavioral, psychological, personal, interpersonal, vocational, academic, and others.
What works best for you depends on you, your individual needs, goals and circumstances, your personal medical history, and your addiction treatment history. However, whether you’ve tried to quit on your own, tried professional treatment before, or this is your first real step toward living a life without drugs, some, but not all, of the following treatments will be part of your long-term recovery plan at Honu House:
It’s important to remember that recovery is a journey, and finding the right treatment and support system is key to success
While other treatment centers offer a wide range of components in their treatment plans and call the approach holistic, at Honu House, we do more than talk about holistic, alternative approaches to treatment: we live them.
We start every day with breath work and create a daily schedule that balances the best of standard treatment – counseling, therapy, medication if needed – with the best of holistic approaches. Our core commitment to breathing, mindfulness, meditation, experiential connection to nature, peer support within the 12-step paradigm, and a focus on compassion, empathy and understanding set us apart, and make us one of the only truly holistic rehab centers anywhere.
We get to know who you are, learn about your goals for treatment, and pay close attention to what resonates with you. Then we work with you to create a treatment plan that addresses your immediate needs and gives you the tools you need to begin your recovery journey with the best chance of sustainable, lifelong success. From individual counseling to group therapy sessions, our programs are designed to provide you with the tools and support necessary to achieve and maintain sobriety.

People with mental health disorders may use alcohol or drugs to manage their symptoms. This can lead to escalating mental health symptoms and alcohol or drug addiction. Evidence shows that when a person has co-occurring disorders, treating one disorder without treating the other can impede treatment progress, and in some cases, can exacerbate the symptoms of both disorders. By addressing both addiction and mental health disorders, we give our patients with co-occurring disorders a real opportunity to move forward on their healing journey.
